The Value of a Comprehensive EEM Simulation

Yearly cash flow of building energy efficiency measures
< 1 min read

When implementing energy efficiency measures (EEMs) for existing buildings, whether it is due to new regulations that push owners of existing buildings to reduce energy use or financial or ideological decisions, it is often not expedient to implement energy efficiency measures without developing a comprehensive strategy first. While some manufacturers and contractors may promise 10%, 20%, or 30% in savings, these numbers do often not account for other measures being implemented at the same time. For example: Does a boiler still need to be replaced in-kind if a window replacement is planned in the future or can it be downsized? What is the impact of a lighting upgrade on heating and cooling demand?

To provide our clients with realistic numbers for implementation costs, energy savings, and ROIs to support their goals, we use software tools that allow us to run a calibrated model of the building and accurately predict a number of EEMs in conjunction. With his approach, we add value to the whole process of energy efficiency projects from benchmarking to verification.
