< 1 min read

Baumann DC staff had the opportunity to volunteer at A Wider Circle, a non-profit organization in Silver Spring, MD. This organization provides basic need items to individuals and families transitioning out of homelessness, fleeing domestic abuse, or otherwise living without the essentials of life. The team sorted through donations and cleaned and arranged them in the showrooms.

The mission of A Wider Circle is to end poverty through on-the-ground programs and services. Their holistic approach focuses on the creation of stable homes; workforce development programming to help families achieve economic self-sufficiency; neighborhood revitalization; and creating greater community awareness and engagement.

The Essential Support Services is A Wider Circle’s largest program. This program provides furniture, serveware and cookware, and other home goods to families transitioning out of shelters, escaping domestic violence, or otherwise living without basic need items.

The workforce development program offers employment assistance to individuals. This includes assistance with resume and cover letter writing, interview skills and practice, job searching and online applications, and career counseling. Additionally, they run periodic boot camps of intensive training that cover all areas of the job search. They also provide additional facilitated training on career path identification, conflict resolution, and career advancement.

Finally, A Wider Circle has a showroom of professional attire and accessories, which serves more than 3,000 individuals each year in need of professional attire and accessories.
