In the process of consolidating its offices in the DMV area, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is renovating and expanding the building on 300 7th St SW, Washington, D.C., and developing a new office building at 2935 Mill Road in the Eisenhower Avenue area of Alexandria, Virginia.
The new headquarters in Washington, D.C. will include the addition of three floors to an existing building for a total of 11 stories and 205,260 gross square feet. The project will be a design-build effort and will include all new MEP systems, a building re-skin, retail on the main level, and rooftop amenities in addition to full tenant fit-out.
The new headquarters in Virginia is a 14-story building of approximately 425,187 gross square feet with an additional mechanical penthouse level. The office building will house a mission-critical data center, which will occupy the fifth level in its entirety. A fitness center, operational command center, conference center, and ground-floor retail will be incorporated with the development of the project. High requirements for site access control and Antiterrorism/Force Protection need to be considered.
Both projects will be designed to achieve a LEED for New Construction v4 certification at the Platinum level.
