The Messeturm Zürich is situated in the Oerlikon district, a prominent commercial hub in Zürich, Switzerland. This impressive 22-story office building was designed to meet both Minergie energy efficiency standards and the rigorous LEED V4 Gold certification under the core and shell rating system. With a total area of approximately 269,098 square feet, the Messeturm primarily serves as office space.
The building is heated by district heating from a nearby waste-to-heat plant, while cooling is provided by two high-efficiency water-cooled chillers connected to a hybrid cooling tower, which takes advantage of free cooling when weather conditions allow. Outdoor air is supplied through eight energy-efficient air handling units strategically located on the roof and in the basement. Additionally, the photovoltaic (PV) system installed on the roof generates electricity that is fully utilized within the building.
Baumann provided a detailed energy model to support the design team in optimizing the building’s performance and ensuring compliance with the LEED v4 Core and Shell requirements.
