USGBC – Green Apple Day of Service

< 1 min read

In the fall 2017, Baumann Consulting supported USGBC and its Green Apple Day of Service. Green Apple Day of Service is an international movement bringing communities together to make schools greener, healthier places for children to learn and play (http://www.mygreenapple.org/). Through the months of September and October, Volunteers helped with sustainability-focused programs in K–12 schools around the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area. We were volunteering for USGBC National Capital Region’s Green Apple Day of Service at Johnson Middle School.

An energetic group took charge to complete not just one courtyard as planned, but also tackled a secondary courtyard in order to make the spaces safer and more enjoyable for the students.

We hope that the children were thrilled seeing their upgraded courtyard, and all the other little improvements that had been worked on around the school. We gardened, painted, collected trash, raked leaves, and planted beautiful flowers to create another form of joy and education for the students. It was a lot of fun working outside and comparing the before and after pictures. The enthusiasm and cooperation of the team really showcased how great of an impact can be made with seemingly minimal resources.
