Cargo Human Care Run

“Step by step. Giving Children a future.” This is the motto of the yearly office run in Frankfurt, Germany with all proceeds going to the volunteer aid organization Cargo Human Care* (CHC). The donations will help to ensure the basic medical care of more than 3,000 children and adolescents in a slum area of Nairobi, Kenya.

Despite the summer heat, our Frankfurt Baumann team participated in the “Cargo Human Care Run” in Frankfurt, Germany on August 23, 2018. It was a fun event and our very own Ben Burgoyne ran the eighth place of the overall ranking! There were two options for runners to decide which race they wanted to run, a 5k and 10k along the Lyons quarter and through the city forest. Our team did not only run for their own health but also for the health of Nairobi’s children. The atmosphere of running at dusk to the beautiful skyline view of Frankfurt proved to make the event even more enjoyable.

Cargo Human Care (CHC) was founded in 2007 by Lufthansa Cargo employees and doctors in Germany with the goal of providing unbureaucratic and ongoing help for the poorest parts of Kenya’s population. Medical care and education are the pillars of CHC’s commitment. Today the organization runs a children’s home for 120 orphans (Mothers’ Mercy Home), a medical center where 50 German doctors work on a regular basis, and a young people’s home that offers vocational training for school-leavers of the children’s home. Lufthansa Cargo has supported this project right from the beginning and provides flight tickets for doctors and free transport capacities for medical equipment among others.
