James Brew invited to speak at GACC Colorado Passivhaus Business Luncheon in Denver

April 30, 2014

Denver, CO, April 2014.

This Wednesday, April 30th at noon, join Baumann’s Denver office Director and Chief Building Scientist James Brew for a presentation entitled: “Passivhaus: The World’s Most Aggressive Energy Standard Comes to America (from Germany).” The German American Chamber of Commerce (GACC) Colorado is hosting this business luncheon as part of ongoing programming focusing on transatlantic partnership in renewables and energy efficiency.

Passivhaus (Passive House) is a German energy standard developed by Dr. Wolfgang Feist and the Passivhaus Institute in Darmstadt, Germany. The standard has roots in Colorado and was recently applied to the retrofit of the home and former headquarters of Amory Lovins of the Rocky Mountain Institute. James will discuss the standard, super energy efficiency and how these techniques were applied to one of Colorado’s most famous homes. Introductions will be given by GACC Executive Director Joshua Seeberg and Baumann Consulting President Oliver Baumann.

James Scott Brew is an Architect, Director and Chief Building Scientist with Baumann Consulting where he specializes in creating high-performance building enclosures and achieving greater sustainability value for buildings, campuses, and communities. He has over 3 decades of design and construction experience and has completed hundreds of projects in historic preservation, healthy, high-performance, low-energy homes and commercial/industrial buildings extending from the U.S. to Asia, Australia and Europe. Before joining Baumann, James co-led the buildings practice at Rocky Mountain Institute for 6 years, focusing on scaling RMI’s impact from single buildings to campuses and cities. Prior to joining RMI, he helped grow his own A/E firm from a small, single-focused firm to nearly 200 people on 7 full-service, client-focused teams.
