Located on The George Washington University’s campus, The Textile Museum encourages the study of art, history, and culture through its paper and textile exhibits and archives. These artifacts require strict maintenance and control of temperature and humidity levels at all times.
The project consisted of the restoration of the Woodhull House and the new construction of a new building, which includes two below grade floors and four above grade levels.
Baumann’s commissioning process supported the achievement of the facility’s specific performance requirements and its LEED certification. Our team provided full commissioning of all MEP and fire protection systems. Baumann ensured MEP systems were consistent with the museum space requirements for filtration, climate control, humidity control, and lighting.
Due to the high number of issues discovered and corrected during the commissioning process, Baumann prevented extensive troubleshooting and operation inefficiencies during subsequent building use.
Resolved issues included:
- Improper labeling and system connection to the building automation system (BAS)
- Valve operation issues with the chilled water and hot water systems
- Non-finalized set points for emergency power
- Incorrect variable air volume (VAV) box alarm set points
