Baumann Consulting, together with Tetra Tech and other consultants, supported the District of Columbia Sustainable Energy Utility’s (DC SEU) incentive program for energy efficiency upgrades.
Baumann vetted projects, analyzed expected energy savings, collected key data to verify savings and summarized findings and conclusions in reports for 1000s of energy efficiency projects across 100s of buildings. The review teams encountered a wide range of technologies, such as photovoltaics, solar thermal, LED lights and controls, chillers, boilers, air-handling units, building controls, variable-frequency drives and heat recovery systems.
As DC SEU is a city-wide incentive program available to commercial and residential buildings, Baumann visited a variety of building types, including governmental, commercial, multifamily residential and single family homes.
Based on the energy projects that Baumann vetted and verified, DC SEU projects reported the following city-wide savings in electricity:
- 2012 – 24,000 MWh
- 2013 – 50,000 MWh
- 2014 – 60,000 MWh
- 2015 – 59,000 MWh
- 2016 – 78,000 MWh
The continued success of the DC SEU has helped to make the District of Columbia the 8th most energy efficient city in America, according to the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy.
